Imagine, 150 garage sales, all in one location! That’s what you’ll get Saturday May 28 at the Okanagan College Kelowna campus parking lot, as the Trunk Sale returns after a two year hiatus.
Organized by the Regional District Waste Reduction Office, Trunk Sales promote reuse and recycling, ensuring we keep any unnecessary and perfectly good material out of our one remaining landfill.
The Spring Trunk Sale will mark the 18th event the RDCO has hosted to date. Rae Stewart, Waste Reduction Facilitator says “The Trunk Sale model is unique in these parts, a mega garage sale from the backs of vehicles, one convenient location, tons of bargains. It’s a family-friendly way to spend a Saturday morning.”
Stewart adds, “If you want to be a seller on sale day, you must pre-register ahead of time and new this year is our on-line registration found at rdco.com/trunksale which opens up May 2.”
“After the sale is over we invite a number of charities to the site so those participating don’t have to lug their items home again, they can simply donate them if they choose. The Kelowna and District SHARE Society will be on hand to accept donations, as will the Canadian Diabetes Clothesline group. Plus, the Okanagan Mission Lions Club volunteers will be helping with traffic control and food sales. We couldn’t host the event without this tremendous community support.”
The Trunk Sale runs Saturday May 28 from 8 a.m. until noon at Okanagan College, 1000 KLO Road. It’s a rain or shine event, and free to attend as a shopper. The Trunk Sale will be held in parking lot 17 next to the Student Residence buildings off West Campus Road.
